Search in memory, why do I know nothing about Tengchong, but the name is so familiar? Shi, a companion of the same trade, also has the same feeling. What makes us familiar?! Some places are just so interesting. You come to this strange land with a natural illusion of being close to it, but you live a very comfortable life. Even some of you are moved and infatuated, as if you had revisited the hometown of the past life and the present life.
This feeling has also been met when traveling abroad, shivering in the chilly sea breeze of Edinburgh, but it is completely attracted by this quiet and melancholy ancient city. There may be no reason to like the place in my heart, but there is a sense of inexplicable integration, willing to stop to feel the passage of time.
The most impressive part of the trip is not where you went, but what you felt. One afternoon in Edinburgh, I didn’t go anywhere. I had a good sleep in the apartment above the elephant cafe. On a rainy morning in Tengchong, I stayed in the inn alone to listen to the rain and have porridge. These lazy clips are the most interesting part of the trip.
After staying in Tengchong for 3 nights, I get up at 7 o’clock and go to bed at 10:30. I love this place so I don’t treat myself as a tourist and live a normal life. There are so many delicious and interesting contents here. I don’t worry or get tangled up. I will slow down and experience what I have met. Even in rainy days, it’s very beautiful.
The plan to Tengchong was originally set for July. The day before the trip, I learned that the flight had been cancelled, and there was no hope of changing the ticket after several rainy days. So I withdrew my ticket and waited for the rainy season to pass.
There are two flight routes from Beijing to Tengchong:
1. Beijing direct flight to Tengchong hump airport, 3 hours and 45 minutes.
The climate of hump airport on the mountain is unpredictable, and there is a high probability of flight delay or cancellation in rainy season.
2. Fly to Tengchong by car in Beijing. The flight time is 4 hours. The distance from Mangshi to Tengchong is 107 kilometers, 1.5-2 hours.
The direct flight to Mangshi is one flight a day. Other flights need to transfer through Kunming.
To be on the safe side, we chose the second route. We took off from Beijing at 7:50 a.m. and had lunch at 12:00 in Mangshi.
Mangshi is the capital of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture. There are many nationalities living here, such as Dai, Han, Jingpo, De’ang, Achang and Lisu. When we drove out of the airport, we saw that the roadside buildings had a strong Dai style. We mistakenly thought that we had come to Southeast Asia from the border.
At noon, I had a meal in a restaurant called Wanli Dai village near the airport. In front of the open kitchen, several girls in ethnic costumes were busy. There is a girl from Burma. She rubbed a kind of yellow powder on her forehead, which is said to be for cooling. We sat down in front of the dining table in the half open air of the small courtyard. There were many plants and flowers in the courtyard. The fresh air was relaxing. The tension in the metropolis was gone. The heart rate and breath seemed to slow down.
A table of local specialties: braised beef tendon with sour papaya, skimmed beef, fried snail with tiger ginger, paheshu (Myanmar language, a vegetable), horseshoe, sweet potato leaf and egg soup.
In the refrigerator, I found a pot of beautiful rose juice. What color did you add to the juice? In fact, this is the enzyme made by the boss with red dragon fruit and pineapple. The pure natural color is so beautiful. Take a sip of ice, sweet and sour, with some natural fermentation gas. It’s delicious.
This is Dehong’s famous “instant boiled hot”. It’s the king of hot. It’s said that its spicy taste is 20 or 30 times higher than that of other hot peppers. It’s only necessary to make a dip dish with “instant boiled hot”. Roll it in the dip dish and it’s spicy.
After the delicious meal, we went to Tengchong and lived in Heshun ancient town.
Heshun ancient town
The town is located in the southwest of Tengchong City, an ancient town with a history of more than 600 years. The style here is quite different from that of Jiangnan ancient town. The town is very large, built on the mountain, and the river flows around the village. There are many people living abroad and then returning to their hometown to build houses and invest, so the town is simple and modern. Heshun ancient town has a large area, and there are many places to visit: Heshun library, Yuanlong Pavilion, aisiqi’s former residence, Wenchang palace, wanlouzi Folk House Museum, Yunnan Myanmar Anti Japanese War Museum, which can be visited for two or three days in the ancient town. The 80 yuan ticket is included in the whole scenic spot. If you only live in a house and visit the streets of the ancient town, you don’t need to buy a ticket.
- Wei Wei Lodge
There are many traditional buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties in the closed Town, and many fine inns in the foreign town. I live in Caiwei homestay, which has been open for more than one year. My friends have lived here. This trip is to try her best to bring everyone together and share the good places she met with her friends.
Time seems to be still in Caiwei’s homestay.
In the morning, I listen to the rain and drink porridge. In the afternoon, I am dazed by tea. In the evening, I bake pigs in the yard and roast Baba to make beef soup. In all kinds of tastes, the time is quiet. I live in a loft big bed room with huge glass windows facing the courtyard. It’s most comfortable to have tea and chat in the courtyard, even strangers can easily get familiar with each other.
Caiwei’s special breakfast must be eaten: “big rescue” and “big processing”.
The “great rescue” is the fried bait of Tengchong. It is said that Zhu Youlang, the last emperor of the South Ming Dynasty, once escaped to Tengchong. When he was hungry, a farmer used the fried bait to satisfy the emperor. The delicious food that the emperor was satisfied with was also handed down and got an image name.
“Big processing” is to cook Baiji silk, which is similar to crossing the bridge rice noodles. Add the hot soup to the casserole and set it on fire. Add the food to the casserole. The order is: quail eggs, meat slices, Baiji silk, green vegetables, leeks, tomato chips, coriander. Finally, add the fried chicken. Cover and simmer for 2-3 minutes. The bait is soft and tender to absorb the soup. It’s delicious to eat.
If you live with your family and friends, Caiwei suggests that you have a small ear pig that is roasted in the yard and set up a fire to bake for 3 hours. This is not a suckling pig but a small pig in the plateau area. Its full name is Mingguang small ear pig. The pig’s skin is crispy and burnt. It’s so happy to share it with many people.
There are also two kinds of home-made rice wine recommended by Caiwei. The names of the wine are particularly touching: lover’s tears and lovesickness.
Lover’s tears are made of rouge fruit (a kind of local red wild fruit) and rice wine. They are pink and sweet. Acacia bitterness is brewed with rice, which is light brown in color. The taste is bitter but the aftertaste is sweet.
It’s a long downhill to turn right out of Caiwei. Every morning, this is century vegetable street. How can our line like food miss it?!
Heshun ancient town bainiancai Street
On the first day of the next day, I went shopping in the vegetable street. I met each other when I went out. It was just an affair.
A white Alpaca with a bell on its neck is also shopping in the vegetable street. It looks cute and has no blemish on its white fur. A girl in a white Pajama next to her is its owner. The alpaca is very shy and keeps avoiding the owner.
We were shocked when we went shopping. We exclaimed that Tengchong is so foreign that even pets are different. The girl said that the alpaca is called tangyuan. She is a girl. She has eaten all the grass at home and wants to find something to eat in the vegetable street. As a result, the alpaca is very picky. It doesn’t want all the dishes that people like to eat, so the owner takes it home.
Vegetable street is so interesting. Every stall has ingredients that I don’t know. This refers to the old man in the village who is a little annoyed: what do you ask if you don’t buy vegetables? Why are you taking pictures? Although I was scolded, I was still happy. It means that this is not a commercial street. It’s all local people who come here to visit. They will visit only when they buy things. We also quickly picked up dishes we didn’t know, bought some and brought them back to Caiwei. Caiwei’s aunt cooks delicious food. She cooks for us in the evening.

Only in the morning, there is Caijie. At the end of Caijie, there is a T-junction. On both sides of Caijie is the commercial street of the town. The old alley is very busy, and there are many shops: flower cake, jade, Yunnan Bean Cafe, bar and restaurant. The snacks in the ancient town can’t bear to miss any of them, such as pine cake, rouge fruit, corn Baba, baked bait , each one is delicious.
Snacks in Heshun ancient town
There are many snack styles in the ancient town. The most special one is Songhua cake, which is sold everywhere. But don’t miss aunt Lin’s Songhua cake. The stand is next to the pond of Yuanlong Pavilion. The appearance of her pine cake is more exquisite than that of other homes. The upper yellow is pine pollen, and the lower is red bean cake. When you bite the pine pollen, it will be scattered in your mouth. It’s slightly sweet and has a little pine fragrance. Some people are not used to this kind of fragrance, but I think it’s delicious. Pine pollen is also a healthy food. It also sells Rouge fruit. Rouge fruit is a kind of wild fruit. It tastes sour and sweet when boiled in sugar water. It’s very fragrant. It’s red when you eat it.
Baked Baba is the baits. The shape of the baits made into small cakes is called Baba. It’s delicious to bake and spread some soy sauce. I’m not used to the soy sauce. It’s a little strange because of the fishy smell of plants. I’ll like it if I eat too much.
Corn Baba is to grind corn into flour and glutinous rice flour and noodles, wrap corn leaves into triangular Baba, steam on the drawer, and eat soft, waxy and sweet.
In Heshun ancient town, you can eat all the way, and pick up Wei and eat Xiaoer pig in the evening. It’s just like this in a happy day. But I always remind myself that I can’t eat too much of every kind of food. If I go out, I need to protect my stomach and body. Then there are more delicious things waiting for me.
5-day jadeite Market
It is said that Tengchong is full of jadeite, because the raw material of jadeite jade is from menggong area in northern Myanmar, only 200 kilometers away from Tengchong. Selling jadeite is like a market. Only Tengchong can do this. Caiwei’s boss takes us to the jadeite wholesale market once every five days. They are called Zhujie. Tengchong has a history of processing jadeite for more than 600 years. Many jadeite carving masters have studios in Tengchong, and many unique jadeite styles may be hidden in the stall.
I saw a lot of raw materials on the ground waiting for customers to come to buy. Besides jadeite, there are Nanhong, agate, amber, honey wax I don’t know about emerald jewelry. I just want to visit the market.
Longevity chrysanthemum sea, ha ha’s home
Living in Caiwei homestay, I know the boss, Mr. tan. We call him Tengchong know everything. What’s delicious and fun here? I’m sure he is right. When girls are attracted by jade and jadeite and want to buy, he reminds us not to be impulsive. We get along with each other for a few days. We call him tan.
Tan Tan recommended that we go to places that are very interesting, such as the world’s longevity chrysanthemum sea and ha ha’s home. At the foot of Gaoligong Mountain, the chrysanthemum sea is so beautiful at the end of September. Fu, a photographer of the same trade, took a picture of the sea of flowers with a drone and recorded everything from an unreachable perspective. Is it said that God knocked over the palette?
Ha ha’s house is the shooting place of an entertainment program. The “ha ha farm” program of Wang Yuan, Jia Naliang and Yang Chaoyue was shot here. When we went, the citron on the tree was as big as the avocado. The owner of the yard took out a ripe citron and cut it for us to eat. It was fragrant and delicious to dip some honey. In Tengchong, walnuts and melon seeds are eaten raw. Walnuts are patiently peeled off and dipped in honey, which is really delicious.
There are many bicycles in the courtyard. This is left by the program group. I chose a white one to ride out to see the flower sea. I found that this one was originally ridden by Jia Naliang. The owner of the courtyard said that fans often came to ask if I could live in a room where Wang Yuan slept?
We had a lunch at ha ha’s house. It was a real farm meal. A plate of fried chicken was served on the table. It was a delicious dish for Tengchong people to entertain guests. There are not many dishes with names, such as balsam pear, red fungus, fried Chinese toon and black chicken. That’s all I can remember.
Tengchong hot sea
Come to Tengchong to have a look at the wonders of hot sea and geothermal. The mountains are full of hot gas and the houses are full of natural geothermal. Go to the highest place is the famous hot sea big boiling pot, here is a big pot to steam eggs, buy a string of woven eggs, hot spring steam can eat 15 minutes. Next to it are steamed peanuts, corn and quail eggs, all delicious. The water temperature on the surface of the large rolling pot is 96 ℃, and the temperature at the bottom of the pot is 102 ℃, which is the sulfur bicarbonate spring. There are many hot springs near Tengchong. After watching the geothermal wonders, we will go to Lotus hot spring for a dip.
Overlooking the mountain, it’s steaming. It’s drizzling on that day. The air humidity is high, and the skin feels particularly moist.
It’s hard to get a clear picture. The lens is blurred by the heat
The most typical and fun part of the hot sea scenic spot is the “big boiling pot”. The boiling water here keeps rolling around day and night. The circular spring hole has a diameter of more than 3 meters, a water depth of 1.5 meters, and a water temperature of 97 degrees. It turns and boils around day and night. Water vapor constantly emerges from the cracks of the ground. It feels like a sauna room by the pool. There is a “big steamer” beside the “big rolling pot”. Tourists can put eggs and potatoes into the steamer to steam the food with the hot air of the hot spring. The lid of the pot can only be opened by pressing. The other person puts the eggs in and can take them out after 10 minutes. Hot spring steamed egg feels very tender and delicious. If you don’t eat enough, you can still eat it when you go to the hot spring.
In the hot sea scenic spot, there are mud mask and sulfur soap for selling volcanic products. I bought a slice of sulphur soaping for more than 60 yuan. It can be used for the elderly and children. It’s very nourishing and comfortable.
Tengchong lotus hot spring
Tengchong has 97 volcanoes, large and small. You can visit the hot sea geothermal Park, see the constant geothermal landscape, and then go to a geothermal hot spring to let every pore of your body feel the temperature and smoothness of the hot spring water. Tengchong hot spring many of the homes we went to are also recommended by Tan Zong, who lives in Weicai. It is located in the lotus hot spring in the lotus town of Baoshan.
This is a very distinctive subtropical Valley Forest hot spring. 25 hot spring pools are hidden in the dense forest, covered by curtains and private. In the hot spring, I saw squirrels jumping up and down the trees. The aunt next to the pool was very careful and often came to help us put our slippers in order. You can have buffet here when you come to the hot spring. There are hot spring boiled eggs and peanuts. Many local cuisines taste good.

I spent an afternoon in the lotus hot spring. I was tired and took a rest on the warm slate bed. It’s very private and the service is good. Every pool has a service staff to help you set your slippers and take towels. I accidentally kicked my foot, and there was a medical box beside the bubble pool. The service personnel immediately helped me to disinfect and bandage it. Tengchong’s entertainment, catering, accommodation software and hardware are all very good. It’s much better than the border town I thought. It seems that I’m really lonely and ignorant. Well, come out more if you have a chance.
Qiluo tea garden in Tengchong
When we left Tengchong, it began to rain. Our plan to go to qiluo tea garden remained unchanged. When we came out to play, we should be happy with the weather. We should not be affected by the weather. The rain outside is pattering, the firewood in the house is flourishing, and the glutinous rice is baked in the pottery pot. The noise of boiling water for tea is incessant, and the aroma of the roasted rice is fragrant. Because it’s cold in rainy days, I prefer to be near the fire. My aunt tells the story of the horse Gang’s tea drinking in those years. We chatted and the fire crackled. We found the warmth of the moment, and the tea at the entrance was better.
For fried rice baked on the fire, shake the small bowl while baking to heat the rice evenly. Stir fried metformin has the function of scraping oil and helping digestion. In those days, the greasy food of the horsemen depended on tea to regulate their stomachs.
The boiling water was poured into the jar of fried rice, crackling like thunder.
How much effort has it taken? Slow down and have a good taste.
After the tea is drunk, you can make Pu’er tea cake by yourself. There are no more than 357 grams of tea. After the steam is heated, use the cloth bag to hold the tea tightly and press it into the shape of a round cake. Use the stone to press it and stand on the stone and roll it in one direction. Then draw a rice paper package and write the name, and wrap the tea cake with a specific method. The elder sister who taught us how to make tea said that the girl here would make a tea cake as a birthday gift for her children every year, which would be a dowry when she was married. Every place has its own customs, and every place has its own fun. It’s not where you took photos that you remember vividly in the journey, but such an interesting experience.

Special food scattered in the market
Eating local specialty food is the most interesting part of the trip, and my principle is to be brave to try and be comfortable with the situation. But when it comes to eating courage, I think I’m not as good as my peers: Miss Pan Pan Pan, a good friend and partner, Miss Pan, a erudite food material teacher Junshi, another senior media person. I’ll take it in front of a dish. They all dare to eat the famous Tengchong dish: sea, land and air, but I can only look at it.
- Tengchong famous dish “sea, land and air”
Sea, land and air are metaphors of three kinds of food materials. Sea refers to rice flower fish, land refers to brown rice, and air refers to bee pupa. The rice flower fish grows in the rice field and eats the fish worms in the rice field. It is fat without fishy smell. The brown bag is the flower bud on the palm tree, and there are small yellow particles like fish seeds in it. It tastes slightly bitter and sweet; the bee pupa is the young bee in the wild hive, the pale yellow translucent meat insect twists and turns, and the boss uses tweezers to clip the bee pupa out of the hive one by one.
I squatted there to see the boss deal with the bee pupa. He picked up a writhing bee pupa and held it up in front of me: eat a raw one. It’s delicious. I shook my head and said he didn’t dare to eat. He smiled and quickly put the pupa into his mouth.

- Tengchong food No.1 qiaoxiangzhai
Qiaoxiangzhai is not only a restaurant but also a 150 year old house. The owner of qiaoxiangzhai went to Myanmar with the help of a horse race. The restaurant named qiaoxiangzhai is also a nostalgia for his hometown. Before the meal, I wandered around in the yard. There was a lot of charm inside and outside the house. There were a large number of diners, so I was ranked first in the evaluation list.
The atmosphere of the earthen pot is very good. The furnace is full of charcoal. In the pot, the ingredients are stewed with high soup: green vegetables, bamboo shoots, crispy meat, fried pig skin, and the top two-color pork omelet are very colorful.
Lily brewed meat is fresh lily stuffed with meat stuffing, delicious and healthy.
The oil soaked goose is very fragrant and salty. After stir frying, the bottom of the dish is soaked with a lot of oil. Pour the oil on the rice and eat it. Adding a little grass and fruit powder is quite appetizing.
Lotus bean curd is made of eggs and flour. It’s fluffy and soft. It’s a big dish.
Baked tilapia is great. It’s burnt and fragrant. It’s also covered with poppy seeds. Poppy seeds are harmless and are commonly used as seasoning in the Middle East and Europe.
Local green onion and small potatoes are also delicious. I want to buy some and bring them back
- Roadside snack “authentic Gudong hot rice noodles”
The roadside snack “authentic Gudong pork and rice noodles”, which originated from Gudong and became popular in Tengchong, is made by different families. This fly restaurant is very simple. It’s not brought by local people, but it’s absolutely unexpected to eat this. The whole shop is full of smoke and fire. Burn the pork slices with open fire. Cut the pork slices and mix them into the noodles. The noodle soup is sour, salty and spicy, very refreshing.

Tan Zong of Caiwei homestay said that when he was a child, he would often skip classes and come here to eat roll powder. He said that if you can’t eat it, you should pack it and take it away. You must try it. From left to right: mixed bean powder, thin bean powder, roll powder. The roll powder is delicious, because I can’t eat much just after eating. I can’t eat it very well. Now I’m still reading that taste. I’ll go to Tengchong again.

A local popsicle was bought by a roadside shop. It’s very special with rice flavor, but it’s too sweet. Speaking of the popsicle with rice flavor, I miss Shaoxing’s yellow wine popsicle most, with rice flavor and yellow wine flavor.
Tengchong and I have known each other for a long time. We love each other deeply. There are too many unique ingredients, natural and primitive landscapes, and mysterious local customs. After returning to Beijing, I often check the air tickets of feitengchong with my mobile phone. I will go again when the air tickets are not expensive and the time is ample. Of course, she lives in Caiwei.
