Slidercrash – New puzzle-game with 60 fresh and mind-boggling levels

Independent developer, Joachim Mertens, is pleased to announce the release of Slidercrash, a challenging puzzle-game with 60 levels, retro-graphics and unlockable songs. Combine Sliders of the same color on a carefully designed retro playing-field. But the devil is in the details. Mirrors and rails redirect the Sliders, walls and rocks stop them, minds or the abyss let them meet their maker. And then there are the other Sliders…

The whole world of puzzlegames is under siege of boring f2p-games. The whole world of puzzlegames? No, a small team of game developers from Germany offers resistance against the hordes of barren games that are nothing more than occupational therapy. Instead, they challenge the brain. Do you really want to know if you are ready to solve next-gen-puzzles? We dare you to give Slidercrash a try.

We are proud of having developed a true mental exercise. On the first glance, it looks so easy: Slider of the same color must be brought together. But the true malice of the playing field is only revealed after numerous attempts. Like skinning an onion, the next perfidy is uncovered by the last.

Slidercrash is not made for babies who just wish to move colorful sweets back and forth. Slidercrash is made for professional mathematicians and people who want to be like them – and who are looking for the next brainteaser. Go ahead, be brave. Like we didn’t warn you.

Slidercrash 1.0 is now available on the Apple App Store in the Games category for free.

Balanced for iPhone reaches 100,000 downloads in just 10 weeks

Jaidev Soin, the Australia-based developer behind life improvement app Balanced, announced today that the app has reached 100,000 downloads in just 10 weeks. Balanced is a motivational tool that helps users focus on doing more of the activities that matter to them. The app’s smart prioritization, simplicity, and positive feel have been heavily praised by users, and play a large part in the app’s success.

Jaidev, Balanced’s creator, says, “As an independent developer I never dreamed Balanced could be this successful; the response has been amazing. I’m committed to refining and improving Balanced to increase its appeal even further. The app’s success so far is a great achievement, but it’s just the start.”

Quick Facts about Balanced
* Price: Free (with an in-app purchase)
* Available for: iPhone & iPod touch
* Launch date: 24th July 2013
* Top countries: USA 36%, UK 6%, Germany 5%, Canada 5%, France 4%
* Top activities added: Meditate, Read, & Hit the Gym
* 12,000 activities are marked as done each day (one every 7.2 seconds)

A driving force behind Balanced’s success is that it doesn’t try to make users feel bad for the things they aren’t doing, like so many other goal setting or to-do apps. Feedback from early prototypes showed that users naturally felt guilty for not doing more in their lives, and were trying to get away from that guilt. Based on this, Jaidev developed Balanced to be positive, forgiving, and most importantly to help users feel that their lives are on track and under control.

Shortly after launch, Balanced was included in Apple’s New and Noteworthy section, and peaked at a top 10 Productivity ranking on the App Store in the USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, and 46 other countries. This early boost allowed the app to gain mind-share among users, and has helped it to compete against established players in the life improvement field.

Balanced 1.1 is currently Free and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Productivity category.

33rd Division Redeployed After Years of Waiting

Craneballs today proudly introduces 33rd Division 1.0.1, their newest game for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. 33rd Division is a stealth-action game from World War 2 that draws inspiration from the masterpiece game Commandos. Players become leaders of the famous 33rd Division and must lead the men past German patrols unnoticed and unharmed. The game requires tactical thinking and quick reactions.

The War is under way and the Allies desperately need reinforcements to secure their position on the front. Only you can provide enough Engineers, Medics and Sargeants to win the war. You draw the line between glory and defeat!

The complicated history of the long-term re-deployment:
Craneballs originally released the game in 2009, but took it down, because they felt it was outdated. The game saw great reactions (and made it top 5 overall in Germany) and Craneballs intended to polish the game up and put it back online. Yet they were tangled in other projects and the resources were limited. Fortunately, e-mails from players of the original game kept coming, asking about the whereabouts of the game, which persuaded Craneballs to give it a go.

The work started in Autumn 2012. Some people might think that a year is a long time for a remake, and there might be some truth to that, but that’s how we make games. We believe good things need time to ripe well.

At the beginning of the development 33rd Division was considered a sort of a gift to loyal players of the original, but during the work it turned out the new 33rd Division has far surpassed the original. It feels fresh, it looks and plays great on iPads and the new inventory items add a completely new dimension to the game. The German gamers were the ones who wanted to have their way with the patrols (which is why we added the grenades and sniper to the new inventory). Beating your friends’ scores is too much of fun to miss.

What’s new apart from HD graphics and iPad support?
* Inventory with a bunch of support items! It’s sniping and hand grenading time. Too bad for the German patrols
* Gamecenter and Facebook integration to race in the higher score battle among friends
* Multiplier system for higher score
* The craved x2 button to speed things up
* The game is free

33rd Division 1.0.1 is Free and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. Feel free to contact the developer for additional information.

Counter-surveillance iPhone app Catchr released

Catchr, the app that secretly detects intrusions. Nordlogic Software is proud to announce the release of Catchr, the first iPhone application that allows users to detect if their phone has been used by somebody else while out of sight. It does this by monitoring applications that have been started or terminated while also recording the duration of the actions that took place during the owners absence.

Maybe you are away from your phone for a minute while having a coffee with a friend, or taking the garbage out at home. With Catchr, you can find out if your friend or someone in your immediate circle has invaded your privacy by reading emails, Facebook/Whatsapp messages or accessing other applications. Catchr provides a passcode lock feature that makes sure you are the only one who can access the information collected.

Initially, Catchr will allow you to find out in a subtle way whether your doubts about certain people are justified or not. In the long run, it will act as a deterrent, so that information that should be private stays private.

Catchr 1.0.0 is $1.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Utilities category. From the very first day after launch, Catchr already gained users’ interest, generating thousands of Twitter/Facebook reactions and ranking in the AppStore Top 10 in countries like USA, UK, Canada, Germany or Australia.

Rainly App Poised to Help Users Rediscover Weather

Rainly, the first app developed and released by Ninja Bottle, aims to help users rediscover weather through its simplified interface, clean graphics and pared-down functionality.

To create this ideal user experience, Rainly’s easy-to-navigate interface gives viewers three options. From the initial screen – which displays the current time and weather of the user’s location – users can swipe up the screen to advance the forecast by up to 24 hours, swipe down to reveal a six-day forecast and swipe left or right to switch between multiple locations. Double tapping the app’s home screen lets users modify both temperature and time formats to suit their preferences.

“What I found when creating this app was that users were craving a simplified weather-checking experience,” says Ninja Bottle founder Sujan Patel. “While there are plenty of weather apps on the market already, industry leaders like Weather.com and WeatherBug complicate things by including more information than users want or need. My goal was to create an app that would allow people to see only the most useful weather data at a glance.”

Early reviews of the app are promising. The iOS version of the app currently enjoys a 4.5 out of 5 star rating, with reviewers leaving such comments as, “Nicely designed and very straight forward to use,” and “Slick weather app.” As a result of its initial success, the app has already reached the Top 25 charts for the weather category in the United States, Russia, Italy and Germany app stores.

Rainly is free download for a limited time from the iOS marketplace or at RainlyApp online. Interested users are encouraged to give the app a try if they’re looking for a simple way to access the actionable weather data needed to make decisions – for example, about what to wear, which route to take or whether to cancel an event – from a single view. The app is not yet available for the Android marketplace, but Patel anticipates a release on this platform as early as Summer 2014.

For a limited time, Rainly 1.2.3 is Free and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Weather category.

MIDI SolFa 2.0 for iOS – Mathematical Music Theory Meets Practice

Math and music researchers, Dr. Garbers and Dr. Noll, today announce the release of MIDI SolFa Mode-Go-Round 2.0 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Started in 2010 as an awarded interactive music-theoretical exhibit in Math-Advanture-Land Dresden, Germany, the MIDI SolFa Mode-Go-Round app aims to be both an entertaining musical instrument, a medium to illustrate music theoretical topics and a tool for practicing musicians.

Customer review: “This on the one hand is a very simple app, but on the other it is complex. It is clever and unique.”

The app has a spiral keyboard with 7 keys per octave. Its design and its transformations are based on recent mathematical music theory insights into diatonic scales. The keyboard relates scale degrees, note names, step patterns and solmization and is useful for teaching and exploring music theory. Users can play diatonic melodies and must explicitly change tonic and mode. Thereby, they get a feeling for the seven modes and learn modulation. On touching the keys, the instrument plays instrument sounds or “sings” solmization syllables according to movable or fixed Doh tradition.

The new version offers a more precisely articulated solmization voice, support for arbitrary instrument sounds and many useful tools for practicing musicians. The app shows MIDI notes on the keyboard and offers simple multitrack MIDI recording and playback. Users can play back a MIDI file and highlight parts to understand and practice a voice in a polyphonic piece: For each MIDI channel, they can change the instrument sound, mix it freely with the solmization sound and toggle note display. There is a growing number of online-tutorials containing musical excerpts as downloadable MIDI-files, that allow to study modulations, voice leading patterns and other music theoretical topics.

An entertaining new feature is the canon generator: Users can interactively learn to improvise canon-melodies – a traditional element in Renaissance musicianship. The user specifies temporal and diatonic offsets of the imitating voices and plays the lead melody. The app plays the imitations note-by-note and shows implied notes and admissible continuations of the lead melody. Beginners and advanced users have plenty of options to practice imitation and counterpoint.

MIDI SolFa Mode-Go-Round 2.0 is $4.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Music category. There are also Lite and Free versions. Promo codes are available by request. Please visit MIDI SolFa Mode-Go-Round online for more information, including videos, user guides and tutorials.
