Apo Island, a small Island in the Pacific Ocean just south of duma gedi, is one of the latest diving attractions in the Philippines. The beauty of apo island need not be overdescribed, but it is hot because it is a world-class diving resort, some diving enthusiasts call it deep in the Philippines virgin land, because there are not so many tourists here.
Apo island is actually a volcanic island with rugged terrain, surrounded by a huge Marine life reserve. It has a colorful underwater world, and more than two dozen sea turtles, large and small, live here for a long time, which attracts a lot of diving enthusiasts. There are also many rocks near the island, some like giant faces.
If diving requires luck to see turtles, there is no luck at all here. Whether scuba diving or snorkeling, turtles are almost always visible under the guidance of an instructor.
Apo island is a very small island, covering only 72 hectares, like a very small, very small green precious in the Pacific Ocean. But its small size hasn’t stopped it from becoming a popular spot for divers. It is said that it has one of the best diving places in the Philippines and the reputation of “one of the top ten diving resorts in the world”.
While exploring the underwater world, many tourists will immerse themselves in the blue sea like a fish. Compared with taking the commemorative photos on the shore, taking photos in the sea is very interesting and more memorable. Some well-built women will wear bikinis to take photos.
The bottom of apo island is home to more than 300 species of coral and over 600 species of Marine animals. Turtles are frequent visitors here. Divers come here not only to see the coral, but also for turtles. Under the blue sky, the soft white sand against the clear water, soft coral dancing in it, schools of colorful fish in the group into a group, it is very spectacular.
Despite its reputation as one of the “top 10 diving destinations in the world”, it is still little known. If it is not for a passionate love of diving, people rarely choose to come here. Standing on the beach with a shot is so beautiful.
When we reached the island by boat that day, we followed the coach over a mountain to the other side of apo island. There are almost no buildings or boats, and everything is pristine, including beaches and reefs. According to the instructor, the chance of diving here to see turtles is almost 100 percent.
Because of the high wind and waves, even if the water is good, you need to wear a life jacket to follow the instructor into the water. When we were all ready, the coach took us all to look for turtles. It’s not the first time, but I’m still looking forward to it. Of course, it would be perfect if you had the chance to scuba dive here.
After the dive, we are going to have lunch. The place for lunch is on the beach, which is reached by climbing a mountain and crossing a reef along the beach. Therefore, on the way to dinner, apo island let us see many other different sceneries. The sceneries here, from nature to culture, are full of the customs of island fishermen.
Despite the extra income tourism brings to apo, the island’s residents still live in isolation, relying on fishing until tourism came in. It is said that the first people who came to the island found it by accident because they were fleeing the fighting. There are still very traditional and primitive wooden houses on the island, some of which are like stilted buildings.
Although the island area is small, but there should be some construction, such as schools, shops, clinics and so on. Since we had to pass through the village on the way to dinner, we found that the development of tourism brought a lot of improvements to the life of apo island, including hotels, diving centers and so on. Instead of fishing, locals now seem to rely mainly on tourism.
For children living on apo island, the sea is their best playmate. When I came to the beach and saw several children sitting or lying on the beach, I couldn’t help feeling a pang of envy. Since I learned scuba diving, every year I go abroad to find a diving site to enjoy the fun of embracing the sea. However, every dive can not help but envy the children living in the sea.
Especially in the environment is very good, if they want to go diving, really anytime and anywhere. Though the wind and waves are big, the children are not afraid, but more excited, ran over, as if to join the waves crazy.
The wind was so strong that the waves were higher than human beings, but the boys were clearly undaunted. I would have run away.
But no matter how big the waves were, they were still having a good time, with a big smile on their faces. I don’t know if you’ve noticed that people from many archipelagic countries like Thailand and the Philippines, including the Solomon islands, vanuatu, Fiji, Tahiti and Samoa, I’ve met people who smile and show their teeth. This makes me feel very good, not only enthusiastic but also confident.
Watching them play so “recklessly” tempted me to drop the camera and play with them. But I had to give up because I put sunscreen on after the dive. The fishermen of apo island believe that the development of tourism is a gift from the sea, and only a good Marine environment can enable them to enjoy the gift of the sea. Therefore, there is an unwritten rule that all divers (including swimming, swimming, etc.) should not use sunscreen.
This is where we want to eat. The restaurant is basically an open-air restaurant built on the beach. The beach water is near chi chi. With limited supplies on apo island, water and vegetables have to be shipped in from the outside, so consumption is usually high, but try not to waste.
Restaurant kept several orange cats, not afraid of strangers, also like to take the initiative to play with tourists. It is worth noting that every visitor to the island will have to pay a 100P fee. Do not feed or touch turtles, or you will be fined 5500P per person, but you can stroke the cat.
There are accommodations on the island, but be prepared. The hotel does not provide hot water and only has electricity for six hours a day. But if you want a taste of pristine island life, it’s perfect, and so far commercial tourism hasn’t eroded it.
