The dried aerial parts (flowering whole herb) of Cephalanoplos segetum (Bunge) Kitam. [Cirsium segetum Bunge], a species in the Asteraceae family. Its rhizome can also be used medicinally.

Cools the blood to stop bleeding, removes blood stasis and reduces swelling. It is classified as a blood-cooling hemostatic herb.
Pharmacological Research
Its water decoction presents direct sympathomimetic effects. It produces norepinephrine-like pressor effects in anesthetized rats with spinal cord injury, and exerts stimulative action on isolated rabbit hearts and toad hearts.
